Zimbabwe’s agro industry is set for expansion after Israel pledged technical and capacity building support to the country.
Israel’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Gershon Kedar, who paid a courtesy call on Vice President Kembo Mohadi, said the programme encompasses both the government and the private sector.
Food security is a major concern for developing countries due to rising population and competing demands.
The situation calls for embracing of smart solutions for better agriculture.
Israel is one country that has managed to transform its desert and above all shared its technologies with other countries.
“Israel takes pride in the drip and micro irrigation solutions which have rapidly spread worldwide. In Zimbabwe, we are already working with the private sector in a number of different fields and we are looking at promoting and increasing technical cooperation and capacity building. Israel is rich in technologies and we discussed technical cooperation,” said Ambassador Kedar.
Zimbabwe has great potential in developing agriculture and the cooperation between Zimbabwe and Israel has the potential to transform the country into its status of being the bread basket of Southern Africa.
Apart from irrigation, Israel has developed its dairy and fishing industry, making it the best partner for Zimbabwe in advancing the command agriculture.
